With LAWLIFT, McDermott Will & Emery has implemented the automation of authorization notices for public administration, specifically the authorization of occasional traffic with rental cars and cabs. These notices are issued 300-400 times per year by a city with about 500,000 inhabitants.
The previous creation of notifications was time-consuming, error-prone and inconsistent. The clauses of notice were taken over from previous administrative acts by copy&paste. In many cases, finding the appropriate clauses proved to be difficult. Up-to-datedness and legal certainty of the clauses - especially with regard to collateral clauses and instructions on legal remedies - were not guaranteed. New wording in each notice resulted in an inconsistent public image of the administration.
With the automated creation of the notifications, the law firm has significantly reduced the city's workload. The clerk now simply clicks through a catalog of questions and answers the questions. The notification is generated automatically and is always up-to-date. The logic and the clauses correspond to the current jurisdiction and the notices are continuously updated by the law firm.
The time required for the preparation of such notifications has been reduced from 4 - 12 h to 1.5 to max. 5 h. The notice is continuously adapted to the current jurisdiction. The administration appears outwardly legally secure, which is also legally relevant under the aspect of the self-binding of the administration. Every clerk can now access a uniform basis of current clauses in approval templates without searching and with reliability.
